What is assisted living, and how is it different from a nursing home?

Assisted living is for seniors who are largely independent but appreciate help with daily living - bathing, dressing, medication and meals - within a home rather than a clinical ward. Minmed Homes are real houses and apartments in familiar neighbourhoods, with 24-hour caregivers on site and nursing support close at hand, so your loved one keeps their routine, privacy and dignity without moving into a nursing home.

Who is a Minmed Home suited for?

Seniors who prefer not to live alone, who would benefit from companionship and a daily rhythm, and who need support with personal care, mobility or medication - including those living with early to moderate dementia. Residents needing intensive round-the-clock medical nursing are better served in a nursing home, and our care team will tell you honestly during the assessment if that is the case.

Is nursing support available?

Yes. Every Minmed Home is supported by a dedicated caregiving team, backed by the wider Minmed care ecosystem, with weekly nurse visits, 24/7 teleconsultation access and health monitoring, so help is always close at hand.

Question 4

Are meals included?

Accepted Answer

Yes. All residences are all-inclusive, with four servings a day prepared fresh by our community kitchen team: breakfast, lunch, tea-time and dinner. Menus rotate for variety and are planned with our dietitian, and we adjust textures, portions and ingredients for diabetic, low-sodium, soft-diet, vegetarian and other dietary needs.

Can family members visit anytime?

We warmly welcome family. Visiting hours are from 9am to 9pm daily, and we are happy to arrange private gatherings, birthday celebrations or festive meals in our communal spaces - just let the house team know in advance.

What level of care can my loved one expect?

Care is personalised to each resident, from companionship and daily living support to medication reminders and coordination with our medical team.

Question 7

How is the level of care decided?

Before move-in, our nurse and care team meet your loved one and family to review medical history, mobility, medication, dietary needs, daily habits and preferences. From that we build a personalised care plan, which is reviewed regularly and adjusted as needs change - so care grows with your loved one rather than staying fixed.

How are medications managed?

Our caregivers prepare and administer medication according to each resident's prescription, with reminders and documented records for every dose. Minmed nurses review the medication list during weekly visits, and prescriptions can be refilled and adjusted through our doctors, so nothing is missed between appointments.

How many caregivers are on duty?

Each home is deliberately small, so caregivers know every resident by name, habit and preference. Trained caregivers are present around the clock, including overnight, and staffing is set according to the care needs of the residents in that particular house rather than a fixed ratio.

What happens in a medical emergency?

Caregivers are trained to respond immediately, escalate to our nursing team and arrange conveyance to hospital where needed. Family is informed straight away, and because our residents are within the Minmed network, their medical history travels with them - with 24/7 teleconsultation available for urgent clinical advice.

Can my loved one keep seeing their own doctor or specialist?

Absolutely. Residents are welcome to continue with their existing doctors and specialists, and our team will help coordinate appointments and accompany them where required. Many families also choose to use Minmed's own doctors for convenience, since two consultations a month are already included in the care plan.

What is included in the monthly fee?

Our rates are all-inclusive: accommodation in a fully furnished room, four servings of food a day, 24-hour caregiving, housekeeping and laundry, utilities and Wi-Fi, activities and outings, weekly nurse visits and up to two doctor consultations a month with consultation fees waived. Medication, transport and specialist treatment are billed separately.

Are there activities and outings for residents?

Yes. There is a planned weekly programme of gentle exercise, cognitive and memory activities, music, art and craft, gardening, festive celebrations and small-group outings. Participation is always by choice - some residents thrive in a full day, others prefer a quiet corner with the newspaper, and both are respected.

Can residents bring their own personal belongings?

Rooms come fully furnished, so furniture such as beds, wardrobes and armchairs cannot be brought in. We do warmly encourage personal items that make a room feel like theirs - photographs, bedding, religious items and small keepsakes. Familiar belongings help enormously with settling in, especially for residents living with dementia.

Do you accept dementia residents?

Yes. We care for residents with early to moderate dementia, with caregivers trained in dementia support, structured daily routines, and environments designed to reduce confusion and agitation. Residents needing higher-intensity dementia care may require a care supplement, which our team will discuss transparently with you.

Question 16

What is the minimum length of stay?

Our Lifestyle Homes have a minimum stay of three months, and our Community Homes a minimum stay of six months. This gives residents enough time to settle in, build friendships and for our care team to get to know them properly. Speak with our care team about current room availability.

Can we visit before deciding?

Please do. We encourage families to tour the actual home their loved one would live in, meet the caregivers and see a meal or activity in progress. Tours are by appointment so we can give you unhurried time with our care team - you can request one through the enquiry form or by calling us.

Question 18

Are government subsidies available for assisted living?

Accepted Answer

Minmed Homes provides AIC-approved Shared Stay-in Senior Caregiving Services, however there are currently no government subsidy schemes available for assisted living of this kind in Singapore. Our rates are all-inclusive and quoted transparently, so families know exactly what they are paying each month.

Is the residence accessible for mobility aids?

Yes. Our landed cottages and shared spaces are step-free, with grab bars and wide doorways throughout.
